I acquired an opportunity to go behind the scenes at The New York Air Show’s media day Thursday.  We noticed the Thunderbirds and their help crew fly in, and had the possibility to interview a few of the pilots.

Capt. Aimee “Rebel” Fiedler flies the specifically painted F-16C of the US Air Force’s Viper Demo Team.  She will showcase the efficiency of her plane and its superb maneuverability, alongside a WWII P-51 Mustang within the Air Force’s Heritage Flight.

She already was an teacher pilot earlier than becoming a member of the Air Force, not taking the standard route of attending the Air Force Academy.  After flying a Cessna for almost a decade, she entered the officer candidate program.

Her objective in becoming a member of the army was to develop into an astronaut, a objective she hasn’t given up. She’s thrilled to fly for the Viper Demo Team.

Capt. Daniel Katz flies Thunderbird quantity 6 and is among the soloists within the new present routine.  This is his first season; he’s flown in 52 air reveals thus far.

His F-16C is able to as much as 9G maneuvers, has a service ceiling of fifty,00 ft, and a prime velocity of 1,500 MPH.

He’s wished to fly so long as he can keep in mind.  His household has an aviation custom; his uncle is a business pilot.

“The COVID pause was our opportunity to introduce a brand new show routine,” Katz mentioned.
