Koch named preseason all-AHA; Falcons picked third

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force senior Brandon Koch was named to the preseason all-Atlantic Hockey group, as chosen by the league’s coaches. In the preseason coaches’ ballot, Air Force was picked to complete third.

Koch, a senior defenseman from Hastings, Minn., earned his second  profession all-conference honor final season, being named to the third group. Koch was second within the league with 22 assists in all video games final season and was tied for second on the group with 25 factors. Koch was named the AHA Defensive Player of the Month for February and had six multiple-point video games final season.

Four-time defending regular-season champion AIC was picked to win the league within the 2022-23 coaches’ ballot. The Yellow Jackets collected eight of the attainable 9 first-place votes for a complete of 88 factors. Sacred Heart, who obtained the opposite two first-place votes, was picked second with 76 factors. Air Force was picked third with 68 factors, adopted by RIT (66).

Air Force misplaced only one participant from final season’s group as goalie Alex Schilling graduated. The Falcons return 100% of the group’s scoring from final season. Junior Will Gavin, who obtained votes for the preseason all-AHA group, led the Falcons with 16 targets and 29 factors. Senior Willie Reim was second on the group with 11 targets and 25 factors. The Falcons made a run to the AHA championship recreation final season, falling to AIC in Utica, N.Y. The Falcons completed the 2021-22 season with a 16-17-3 total report and positioned sixth within the Atlantic Hockey common season with an 11-12-3 report.

Air Force opens the season with an exhibition recreation in opposition to Colorado College, Oct. 1, at Cadet Ice Arena. The Falcons will open the common season by co-hosting the Ice Breaker Tournament, Oct. 7-8, at Cadet Ice Arena.
